The NWCG FAL3 Basic Faller Qualification Academy is a four-day, field-based program designed to help students gain practical experience and complete evaluations toward their NWCG FAL3 (Basic Faller) Position Task Book. Working alongside qualified evaluators, participants receive hands-on instruction and evaluation opportunities in chainsaw safety, saw maintenance, limbing, bucking, hazard assessment, tree evaluation, and basic tree felling operations. The academy emphasizes safe work practices, operational awareness, and real-world field experience while providing structured opportunities for task book sign-offs and qualification development. Students leave with valuable evaluator feedback, documented task book progress, and increased readiness to serve as a qualified NWCG Basic Faller. Completion of S-112 Introduction to Chainsaws or S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws is required prior to attendance.
