The California Prescribed Fire Council supports community-based, safe, and legal prescribed burning across California. Our goal is to help landowners, fire practitioners, Prescribed Burn Associations, tribes, agencies, nonprofits, and local communities bring good fire back to the landscape.
Community Fire Training
Program of California
The California Prescribed Fire Council Training Program provides accessible, standards-based education to support the safe and effective use of prescribed fire across California. Courses focus on hands-on skills, fire behavior, planning, permitting, and operational leadership, helping landowners, fire practitioners, and community members build the knowledge and confidence to implement good fire. Through partnerships and field-based learning, the program strengthens local capacity and supports the growth of community-based Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) statewide.

This hands-on, safety-focused course is designed for landowners, land managers, and prescribed fire practitioners who want to confidently and effectively use a chainsaw for property maintenance, fuels reduction, and defensible space projects.
